Former Cavalier Headlines...
Owosso defeats Corunna 4-1 in the Division 2 district
semifinals
Owosso was able to get past Corunna in the district semifinals while lowering the Cavaliers to 12-23 overall.
The Trojans broke a scoreless tie with two runs in the top fo third as Ardelean lined a two-run double
to rightfield after Garrett Barnes walked and Justin Constine got on with an infield single.
In the fifth, Owosso tacked on two more runs when Marcus Wojtkowicz doubled down the leftfield line, Ardelean
singled him in and Tyler Jones sacrificed Ardelean in.
Owosso’s Oginsky struck out four and walked two while giving up three hits. Garcia once again came
on in relief for the final inning and did not give up a hit or a run.
Corunna’s Andrew Linabury pitched a six-hitter with two strikeouts and two walks.
Ryan Butcher doubled and drove in a run for the Cavaliers. Tyler Perkins and Brennin Adkins also hit safely
for the team.
The Cavaliers scored their run in the fourth to cut the deficit to 2-1. Perkins lined a one-out single,
Adkins was hit by a pitch and Butcher drove in the run on a fielder’s choice play.
“Andrew threw 102 pitches today and he did a great job,” Corunna coach Brian Osborn said.
“Owosso is a good team. They remind me a lot of our 2005 team that went to the state quarterfinals. They’ve got
a good strong-armed catcher (Wojtkowicz), just like we had Ryan Secor. Depth around the field that allows you to pretty much
grab a kid from the outfield to pitch. That’s what we had.”
Corunna, Chesaning split non-conference
twinbill
CORUNNA — The Cavaliers and Indians took turns winning in this non-league doubleheader. In Game 1, Corunna prevailed 5-1 while limiting Chesaning to just one hit — Kyle Hoover’s base hit.
Joe Janca captured the pitching win for Corunna (12-22). Janca worked four innings, pemitting one run,
one hit and one walk. He struck out six. Janca also helped himself out with two of Corunna’s five hits.
In Game 2, the Indians (10-22) scored four times in the seventh to pull out a 10-7 victory. Thomas Stasa
had two hits and drove in two runs. Leo Devota also had two RBIs as Josh Sincissen captured the win while giving up one run
in 3 2-3 innings.
Cavaliers win twice for Clay
Tuesday, May 18, 2010 6:00 pm
By JASON BARCZY Argus-Press Sports Writer
CORUNNA — With heavy hearts still mourning the loss of Larry Clay Jr., the Corunna baseball team
swept a home doubleheader against Perry on Monday, winning 4-3 and 4-1.
The Cavaliers paid tribute to Clay, 31, a Corunna graduate and star baseball player who died Saturday,
with all of the Cavaliers’ players and coaches having “LC 16” in black ink on their hands in reference to
Clay’s initials and the number he wore at Corunna.
“We all tried to play for him and get a win for him,” said pitcher Tyler Perkins. “He
was a great athlete for Corunna and it feels good to get two wins for him.”
Corunna coach Brian Osborn played alongside Clay in high school and even was behind the plate during a
no-hitter Clay threw.
“(Larry) was probably one of the best leaders we’ve had at Corunna from what I can remember,”
Osborn said. “I wanted to remind the kids that there’s a way to play this game and Larry showed us how to play
that game.”
The Cavaliers, perhaps with a lot on their minds, got off to a rocky start, committing four errors in
the first inning of Game 1, which resulted in two Perry runs as Brandon Post and Nick Goodman scored.
But Corunna starting pitcher Andrew Linabury settled down and retired 13 of the next 17 batters, including
seven straight after the first inning, as the Cavaliers improved to 11-17 overall, 2-4 Capital Area Activities Conference
White Division.
Game 1 was won in the fifth inning, when Corunna scored three runs to take a 4-2 lead. Perkins and Ryan
Butcher both hit RBI singles with Butcher scoring later on a wild pitch.
In Game 2, Perkins preserved the Cavaliers’ win by striking out six and holding Perry (7-15, 0-6
CAAC White Division) to one hit over six innings until the Ramblers had a couple safeties against him in the top of the seventh.
“Perkins is very comfortable with his curveball and he did a great job of spotting that,”
said Corunna catcher Mike Janca. “He pitched really good. It was great. He was able to spot it well and that’s
all you need.”
Corunna scattered its run production in Game 2, scoring one run apiece in the second, fourth, fifth and
sixth innings as Brandon Numerich, Brennin Adkins and Joe Janca were each able to pick up RBIs.
Adkins was 3-for-4 in Game 2 with two stolen bases and a run scored in the fourth inning. Numerich was
2-for-4, scoring a run in the fifth.
“They executed the small ball and did the things we needed them to do,” Osborn said. “I
feel pretty good about the season, but we’re still not where we need to be. The boys know that, and they’re not
satisfied with it either.”
Corunna will travel to Lakewood, who just qualified for the Diamond Classic, on Thursday, May 20th for
a key CAAC White matchup.

LCC sweeps Cavaliers...
LCC traveled to Corunna for a CAAC White twinbill, they left with two
victories - but it was not without a fight. Andrew Linabury and Pat King battled on the mound for Corunna tonight. Both Cavalier
pitchers were phenominal and with a few clutch hits the wins might have fell Corunna's way.
Cavs
split with Orioles
Game one saw Corunna battle
back from a 6-2 deficit with 7 runs in the 6th and finished off Charlotte 9-8 for the win. Tyler Perkins, Andrew Linabury,
and Brennin Adkins finished the game with 3 hits each. Pat King pitched well; going 6 and a 1/3 for the win while walking
2 and striking out 4.
Game two was all Charlotte, 13-1 in five innings. Corunna was limited to four hits and
just couldn’t get anything going. Corunna will face LCC on Monday and Williamston on Thursday before heading to Aquinas
for a weekend tournament.

CORUNNA — The Corunna baseball team climbed to 7-6 overall with a 5-4, 10-0 sweep of New Lothrop.
The Cavaliers scored two runs in the last of the seventh of Game 1 to pull out the victory. Mike Janca’s infield
grounder, which was misplayed by the Hornets, drove in Ryan Butcher with the game-winning run.
Butcher had two of Corunna’s seven hits. Andrew Linabury, who pitched a seven-hitter with three strikeouts and two
walks, was the winner for the Cavaliers.
Randy Green had a pair of hits for the Hornets.
In Game 2, Tyler Perkins pitched a 4-hit shutout for the Cavaliers with two strikeouts and no walks. Linabury had four
hits including a double and drove in four runs. Brandon Numerich and Butcher each had two hits and two RBIs.
The Hornets received hits from Tyler Bennett, James Urban, Evan Gagnon and Tyler Moore.
Go Cavs!
Cavs
split the week – still have work to do
Corunna traveled up to Ithaca
to take on the 7-0 Yellowjackets on Tuesday. After winning the first game 9-6 in extra innings, Corunna put up 20 runs in
a 20-4 win. Andrew Linabury collected 5 doubles on the night. Great sweep boys.
On Thursday the Ionia Bulldogs
hosted the Cavaliers for another double header. Coming in with a lot of confidence the Cavs looked to extend their winning
streak to 3 in a row but Ionia humbled the Cavaliers with a 12-2 win. Game 2 finished 8-5 with the Bulldogs getting the upper
hand. "Walks and errors will get you every time, we will get back to work on Friday and Monday to get ready for a home
game against New Lothrop on Tuesday,” stated Coach Osborn.
Good Luck this coming week!
GO CAVS!
Corunna Finishes tough week with a "W"...
After dropping two winnable games at Okemos on Thursday the Cavaliers met up with Mason on Saturday
for a twinbill. Game one saw the Bulldogs take an early lead but Corunna fought back to make it a game before losing
7-4.
In game two Corunna took an early lead before surrendering it in the third inning. After Corunna tied
the game up 11-11, Mason responded with one run in the fifth. In Corunna's half of the inning, Mike Janca smacked a two RBI
single to plate Cody Mastrodonato and Brandon Numerich. Tyler Perkins picked up the win and Jorden Thomson collected his first
two varsity hits of his career.
Great job today boys, back to work Monday! Go Cavs!
Cavs drop to 2 and 1 with loss to Owosso...
Tuesday night saw two undefeated teams take the field and Owosso struck first. Taking a 2-run lead in
the first Owosso never looked back. Leading 8-1, Owosso looked to close out the game but the Cavaliers fought back to make
it 8-3 and loaded the bases before their rally came up short. Game two ended early due to darkness with the Trojans leading
Corunna 6-2.
Corunna will get back to work on Wednesday with practice in preparation for a busy 9 day span:

Cavs take Home Opener
Corunna used a 6 run 5th inning to take control of the home opener versus Fowlerville and earn a well
deserved 8-5 victory. Andrew Linabury earned the win while Brandon Numerich came on for the save. Offensively the Cavaliers
were led by Linabury with two hits and Tyler Perkins and Nick Howes came up with two RBI's a piece. The Cavs will be back
in action Thursday as they travel to O-E for a doubleheader. Nice win guys - Keep up the hard work!
COACHES CORNER...8:15 pm 3/28/10
The Cavaliers enter the 2010 season eager to prove that last year's learning experience has only fueled the expectations
for this year's team to be successful. The Cavs are optimistic about challenging for the CAAC White championship based
on six returning starters. The Cavs team defense and depth will be improved and the offense is expected to be the strength
of this year's team because of the ability to play many different styles of baseball. The key to success for this ballclub
will be its pitching staff. How quickly the inexperienced pitchers contribute effectively, and which pitchers step up
in relief are the key questions facing this staff. Look for the Cavs to be a threat in the CAAC race if they stay healthy
and pitch effectively.
The Cavs open the season on Tuesday versus a very good Fowlerville program and then travel to Ovid-Elsie on Thursday
before going on Spring Break. Stop by, enjoy the weather and some great baseball
GO CAVS!

Cavs Fall to LCC, Split with Stockbridge on Wednesday…
On Thursday the Cavaliers
entered a suspended game trailing 7-0 and eventually loss 10-0. Game two saw Ken Walters pitch with a purpose and kept Corunna
close, hoping the bats would explode – unfortunately they did not and some key errors opened the game, finishing 11-1.
On Wednesday Corunna hosted
Stockbridge and came out with a split, losing game one 18-13 and winning game two 11-1 in six innings. Game one saw a special
feat…Brennin Adkins hit for the Cycle – HR, 2B, 1B, 3B! Brennin finished the game 4-6 with 3 RBI’s and 2
runs scored. Nice job! Nick Howes, Tyler Perkins, Andrew Linabury, and Ryan Butcher finished game one with two hits.
Game two saw Linabury pitch
a gem; 5 hits, 4 K’s, 2 BB and one run over six innings – and more importantly his teammates played stellar defense.
Keegan Carpenter and Ryan Butcher led the Cavs with three hits – Carpenter was perfect 3-3! Zach Adkins led Corunna
with 3 RBI’s – Nice Job guys.
Cavs Split with Portland...
Corunna won game one 8-4 behind great pitching and a big 3rd inning rally. Great job boys!
Portland came back to take game two 10-0 in five innings thanks to great hitting and pitching.

Lakewood
sweeps Cavs in CAAC action
After playing good baseball the previous
week the Cavaliers went backwards on Monday night. Getting no-hit and losing game one 11-1 and capping off a poor offensive
night with a 10-0 loss in game two. Hitters in game two included Mike Janca, Erick Osika, and Cody Mastrodonato.
Cavs
fall to Hornets
Corunna put up a good fight
on Monday pushing Williamston to the limits in a CAAC duel. Corunna fought back from a 1-0 deficit to take a 2-1 lead. A couple of walks cost the Cavs two runs and the lead and the game.
Game two saw a good hitting
Hornet squad jump on some good pitches and take a 4-0 lead. Corunna battled but could not come all the way back – eventually
falling 7-2. Progress was made and I expect the Cavs to continue this great effort against Perry and the rest of the CAAC.
Hudson takes two from Cavs...
Corunna fell 4-2 and 12-0 to visiting Hudson on Friday night. Hudson
used solid defense, good pitching and timely hitting to take care of the Cavaliers. Brett Hudecek adn Ken Walters pitched
well in game one but the offense continues to struggle and poor baserunning haunt the Cavs.
Game two saw the Tigers jump out to an early lead before rookie pitchers
Joe Janca and Pat King came in for relief. Both pitchers did very well considering the circumstances.
Cavs drop a pair to Ionia
Corunna battled back from a 4-0 deficit in the 7th inning to make the game 4-3 with runners in
scoring position. The Bulldogs pitcher shut the door to ensure a victory. Ken Walters made this game close by going the
distance and striking out 4 and only walking one hitter. Game two was not as exciting, Ionia jumped out to an early
lead and never looked back as the Cavaliers struggled defensively. Zach Adkins had a web gem for the Cavs with a diving catch
as he neared the fence, great job!
Trojan post twinbill win against Cavaliers
By The Argus-Press Thursday,
April 16, 2009 9:20 AM EDT
OWOSSO - The host Trojans took advantage of two costly mistakes by Corunna
to win an extra-inning opener and a second-game offensive surge helped Owosso improve its baseball record to 5-0.
In
the first game of Wednesday's doubleheader the Trojans edged Corunna 2-1 in eight innings after Corunna pitcher Ken Walters'
errant throw to pick off a runner at first allowed Tyler Jones to score the winning run. That came after Owosso got its first
run in the fourth inning on a passed ball that allowed D.J. Shuster to reach home.
Corunna tied the game in the seventh
when Ryan Butcher hit a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Andrew Linabury, who reached with a single. Linabury had two
of the four hits for the Cavaliers in the contest.
Austin Buchmayer got the win, striking out two in his lone inning
of work in the eighth. Garrett Barnes was the starter for Owosso, going seven innings, allowing three hits and striking out
seven.
“The first game was good high school baseball, both teams played pretty sharp,” said Owosso coach
Ed Powers.
“Absolutely, it was a great
high school game,” said Corunna coach Brian Osborn. “It was just a great defensive battle. Ken Walters pitched
very well. We have a saying that the next game is the most important game of the season, we played like it in game one.”
Walters
worked 7 1-3 innings, striking out seven and walking six.
In game two, Owosso exploded for 13 runs in the third inning
to end the day early with a 16-1 mercy decision. Greg Oginsky, who earned the win after going three innings and allowing only
one hit, also helped himself out with a pair of hits and three RBIs.
Eddie VanStrate, Shuster and Buchmayer all had
two hits and two RBIs each.
“We woke up and I think they were kind of ran out of pitching,” Powers said.
“Game
two was a complete debacle,” said Osborn of his team's play. “We walked or hit eight batters and we kicked the
ball around. It was a 3-1 game at one point and they broke it open.”
The Cavs opened
the season on Tuesday against Fowlerville with a sub-par performance but bounced back on Thursday to take an extra inning
victory from Ovid-Elsie, 7-6 in 9 innings.
The Marauders took
an early 4-0 lead before the Cavaliers fought back to tie the game at 4-4. Corunna began to sure up their defense and pitching
while the bats were also getting warmed up. Brett Hudecek fought hard for the Cavs on the mound going 5 strong innings –
he allowed four runs on six hits striking out 6 and walking four. Unfortunately he does not get a decision but his efforts
allowed the Cavaliers to stay close and have a chance to win. Chris Richards came in to finish the game getting the last twelve
outs while allowing four hits, one walk and 4 strikeouts.
The ninth inning
began with a Nick Howes walk, and after a pop out Tyler Perkins added a single. Andrew Linabury looked like he was going to
ground out when the OE fielder did not complete the force out in time – loading the bases. Ryan Butcher drew an RBI
walk bringing Erick Osika to the plate. Osika hit a ball to right field that was deep enough to score Perkins and as Linabury
rounded third the high throw was not handled by the catcher and the Cavs scored the winning run.
Corunna out hit
the Marauders twelve to ten and improved their record to 1-2. Corunna will return to action April 14th when they
travel across town to take on Owosso – game time is 4:00pm

Congratulations Patrick! You had a great season and you always have been a great ambassador for our program!
COACHES CORNER:
December 29th, 2008
Dear Parents and Players:
As the New Year approaches the coaching staff
and our families wish you and your family a happy holiday and hope you have a prosperous 2009. The Corunna Baseball staff is ready to begin scheduling workouts with prospective players and preparing
for our Youth Camp. Majority of our players are currently involved with another sport but those that want to get better will
find a way to make time to improve. Contact Coach Oz for more information regarding workouts; the proper channels will need
to be followed IF you are in a winter sport.
Something to think about…If a player
takes 45 minutes to get ready for a game and then finds out he is not playing,
what should that player do?
1. Hope
the starter does poorly so he gets a chance regardless of team success.
2. Completely
shut-down and blame lack of playing time on the Coach.
3. Stand
in the dugout, supportive of your friends and when called upon take 1 inning and 1 at-bat to get ready.
4. After getting ready…STAY READY! Stay
in the game by being supportive and doing a job, keeping legs loose between innings, throw with a player between innings,
swing a bat when there is a chance.
We all know the right answers to the question,
but what will we do when and if this actually happens to us? Very few cancerous players will do #1 and #2 and our team will
eventually breakdown and never succeed. Many will resort to #3 because it feels right, our parents tell us to be good teammates
but what about your preparations? THE VERY BEST TEAMMATES WILL DO #4 and then go to practice the next day trying to win the
starting spot. IF they don’t win it, they make the team better because they have created competition – GET READY
AND STAY READY!
Respectfully,
Coach OZ

Corunna tunes up for Districts...
Corunna hosted Flint Powers on Tuesday in a district tune-up. The Cav's exited the night with a split
and some great lessons they can put to use for the state tournament. Leading most of the first game, Corunna gave up the tying
run in the top of the seventh and could not get something going until the eighth inning. Jordan Robinson drew a leadoff walk,
Ryan Butcher laid down a perfect bunt and then Ken Walters sacrificed Robinson and Butcher up one base. With one out Brennin
Adkins laced a walk-off single to give the Cavaliers a game one victory.
Game two came down to pitching and Powers was better. After giving up 7 runs in the first two innings,
Corunna allowed only one run and scored three inthe remainder of the nightcap.
Corunna will face Flint Northwestern on Saturday in the District semi-finals at Owosso High School.

Darkness robs Corunna of chance for win
By The Argus-Press Wednesday, April 23, 2008 10:18 AM EDT
EATON RAPIDS - There was
confusion hanging over the end of Tuesday's second baseball game between Corunna and Eaton Rapids. The game officially went
down as a scoreless tie through seven innings, even though both teams saw action in the eighth inning.
The Cavaliers
(5-6) posted three runs in the top of the eighth inning off Nate Cameron's double to right field for a 3-0 lead. Eaton Rapids
came back in the bottom of the frame to score twice, when there was a collision in the infield. Instead of ruling on the play,
the umpires decided it was too dark to continue and took the game back to the last completed inning - the seventh. That made
the end result a 0-0 completed tie game.
“We did the right things, we played the right way,” Corunna coach Brian Osborn said. “To
have it finish like that... it was pretty tough.” Osborn said the collision was a “mix-up play that could have
gone either way.”
It wasn't all disappointment for the Cavaliers, who picked up a 6-5 win in the opener. Corunna
tallied eight hits in the first inning to jump out to a 2-0 lead before Eaton Rapids stormed back in the second for five runs.
But the Cavaliers answered with four runs in the third to hold on for the win.
Nick Shipman had two doubles to deep
center field while going 3-for-4 in the game with two RBIs. Cameron pitched the win for the Cavs with two earned runs on six
hits with seven strikeouts and no walks. “It was a great performance,” Osborn said. “I was talking to one
of my coaches and we were saying excluding (2007 grad and current MSU player) Brandon
Eckerle, this was one of the best games we've seen pitched here in a long time.”
Jordan Robinson carried the
momentum on the mound for Corunna into the second game. He gave up one earned run on eight hits with 10 strikeouts and three
walks. Patrick Bohac had two hits and a stolen base for Corunna in the nightcap while Robinson, Cameron and Brennin Adkins
all added hits.
Marauders
strike in the 8th, Cavs lose 1-0
The Cavaliers lost game one in extra innings 1-0
due to too many men left on base and some crucial base running errors. Nick Shipman pitched 7 strong innings, one of his best
performances of his career. Pat Bohac unfortunately took the loss but threw well in relief. The Cavaliers will need
to play a complete game; offense, defense, and pitching to be successful – that day is coming soon and spring break
practice will allow us to reflect on some mistakes and build on our positives. This group of guys will work so we feel
confident that we will be successful. Game two was called in the 3rd inning.

Corunna falls to Powers in Pre-District
Corunna took the field on Tuesday afternoon with the same idea as all other teams in the state of Michigan
- win a State Title. Unfortunately things did not go in their favor; the Chargers came out on top of the error filled
game 4-1. Corunna was held to four hits, the same number of errors that they committed in the game. Jordan Thayer (2
hits), Brandon Eckerle (1 single) and Chris Fuja (1 single) recorded hits but a Nate Cameron sacrifice fly was the Cavaliers
only RBI. Eckerle struck out 13 while giving up 5 hits in his last performance on the mound for the Cav's. Please check
back for more information regarding our season and make sure to contact our Parent Volunteers for banquet reservations.
CAVS SWEEP THE WEEK!
Corunna swept the week to get to 20-10 on the season. Great pitching, timely hitting and some pure guts
led to their victories. With two practices still to come, the boys are ready to compete for a District Title starting
next week on Tuesday at 4 pm in Birch Run against Flint Powers.
This Week In Baseball...
After looking
at this past week and having played 4 doubleheaders, we are very happy with the progress that the team has made. There are
still adjustments that can be made – no one is perfect but we will continue to work them with perfection in mind. This
week is a lot less hectic, O-E on Tuesday and depending on the Diamond Classic
game on Monday – our St. Johns game could be cancelled. We will be looking for an alternative incase St. Johns wins.
Players
are still selling tickets for a Lugnuts game that takes place on May 25th at 7:05 pm. By selling the tickets, it allowed the boys to play at Oldsmobile Park on May 15th. Thank you for your support. If interested in purchasing more tickets or know someone that
is interested; email Coach Oz and he will get you your tickets. PLAYERS MUST TURN IN MONEY BY TUESDAY.
MONDAY
5/29 practice – Varsity will practice on Memorial Day at 5:30 pm. Please plan your family vacations accordingly as this is our last practice prior to the start of the state tournament.
This is a mandatory practice.
Peggy Bohac
and Sheila Eckerle have committed to working on the Banquet, in the coming days every player will receive an invitation. We
are still looking for the perfect date, time and location…please thank them for their hard work-unless you do this one
time you will never know how time consuming this can get. Thanks ladies!
Cavs split...Red Raiders clinch MMC
Thursday was a high of highs and a low of lows for Corunna Baseball. Game one saw Brandon Eckerle no-hit
Portland and the Cav's put 17 runs on the board. Unfortunately the second game was needed to share the league title and Corunna
lost 2-1 which ensured the league title for Portland, breaking Corunna's streak of three in a row. Although they didn't win
the league title, they can be very proud of the way they are playing of late - keep up the hard work in practice and see the
results! Corunna will get back to work with districts in mind when they Travel to South Lyon on Saturday beginning at
1:30.

Brandon Eckerle has signed his National Letter of Intent to become a Spartan. Brandon signed his NLI
on April 11th and is excited to become a Spartan and ready to play for Coach Dave Grewe beginning in the Fall of 2007.
Eckerle becomes the 4th Division I NCAA Baseball player to come out of Corunna in the last 15 years. Congratulations again
and best of luck.
Coach Osborn's thoughts:
"Brandon will be a great addition to the MSU Baseball family because he is a high
character young man who has a desire to become the best at everything he puts his mind to. Michigan State University is
very lucky to have Brandon AND Brandon is very lucky to have MSU - a quality person, student, and athlete. Eckerle is
just what MSU is looking for as they continue their pursuit towards a Big Ten Championship and an NCAA Regional berth.
The Corunna Baseball program wishes you the best and we will see you in action next spring!"
Cavs keep rolling, sweep Perry and look forward to Olds Park
Cavs win 12-2 and 15-5 in shortened games...more information to come later.
The jaw is okay...had to be there to understand!
Cavs shut down Indians for baseball wins
By The Argus-Press

AM EDT
CHESANING - Corunna totaled 21 hits on the day while sweeping
a non-league baseball doubleheader from Chesaning, 5-2 and 9-4, Friday afternoon.
The sweep lifted the Cavaliers to 10-8 overall. “They were
two good all-around wins for us,” said Corunna coach Brian Osborn. “We kept things rolling.”
Cavs
rightfielder Travis Sain smashed three hits in game one while catcher Nate Cameron drove in two runs with a pair of hits.
Ty Kalat, the team's leftfielder, also had two hits and drove in a run. Curtis Hoskins doubled and drove in a run.
Hoskins
and Jordan Robinson teamed up on a three-hitter. Robinson, earning the victory, went the final four innings.
The Cavs
broke a 2-2 tie with two runs in the fourth and one more in the seventh.
In game two, Corunna rallied for a 9-4 victory
after Chesaning had taken a 4-2 lead with four runs in the last of the fifth.
The Cavaliers responded with seven runs
in the top of the sixth. It proved to be the final inning of the contest.
Corunna overcame six errors with a 10-hit
attack headlined by shortstop Brandon Eckerle and rightfielder Matt Gatica, who each lined two hits and drove in a run.
Ty
Kalat picked up the win in relief. Kalat worked two innings, yielding four runs and four hits. Nate Cameron pitched four innings
and allowed no runs and just one hit. Cameron struck out two and walked none while Kalat fanned three and also did not issue
any free passes.
Cavaliers take two from Perry
Corunna traveled to Perry on Tuesday and defeated the Ramblers 11-1 (6 innings) and 9-3. Brandon
Eckerle improved to 3-1 on the mound by striking out 14 and giving up one hit. Corunna pounded out 16 hits and scored a run
in every inning except the 5th. Game two saw Travis Sain pick up the win with a gutty performance on the mound and the Cavs
finally put some runs on the board, 9 runs on 9 hits. Corunna will play this Friday at Chesaning, see you there.
Cavaliers take two from Panthers
On Wednesday night two
pitchers entered game one with a purpose and neither one should be ashamed of their performance. Brandon Eckerle got the win
going 7 innings while giving up one walk, one hit and striking out 15 Lapeer West batters. Keenan Prine was special as well,
holding the Cav’s to one run and battling the whole way.
Corunna needed a leadoff
single to Eckerle, a couple stolen bases – then Nate Cameron came through with a huge sacrifice fly to score Eckerle.
Game two saw the Cavaliers
jump out to 1-0 lead before Lapeer rallied to take a 3-1 lead. Corunna chipped away and eventually got 5 runs in the 5th
to take a 7-3 advantage. The Panthers put together a late rally before Ty Kalat slammed the door to preserve the win for Jordan
Robinson.
Corunna return’s
to action on Thursday when they face league foe Portland at 4:00.
Cavs drop a pair despite great pitching
On Tuesday night the Cavaliers traveled to Williamston to
take on the Hornets. Game one saw Travis Sain pitch one of his best all-around games but the cavalier bats ran into a buzz
saw in Nate Olsen. Olsen struck out 12 hitters and walked only one. Corunna managed only 3 hits and those came off the bats
of Brandon Eckerle, Nathan Cameron, and Jordan Thayer. The final score was 3-1.
Game two pitching was again terrific as Curtis Hoskins twirled
a gem while facing 31 hitters and only walking two and using his fielders to make the remainder of the outs. Yarmak from Williamston
picked up the win by throwing 2 innings of relief for Sawdon who started the game. Eckerle and Matt Gatica lead the Cav's
in hitting with 6 others contributing at least one hit – Pat Bohac, Thayer, Sain, Cameron, Hoskins, and Chris Fuja.
In some odd circumstances to end the game, the Hornets walked across the plate for an uncontested victory.
Corunna will battle Mother Nature and Perry on Thursday as they
return home for a 4 o’clock doubleheader against the Ramblers. Come out and support the boys as they chase their 4th
consecutive MMC Championship.
Host Cavaliers capture wood bat championship
By The Argus-Press
Monday, April 23, 2007 10:03 AM EDT
CORUNNA - Back-to-back victories over Byron, 7-1, and Breckenridge in the tournament finals, 16-11, lifted Corunna to championship
honors at Saturday's Corunna Invitational.
In a tournament in which only wooden bats were allowed, the Cavaliers pounded out 21 hits. Coach Brian Osborn's squad squared
its season record at 4-4.
Nate Cameron (2-0) armed Corunna in the first game, working the first four innings and scattering
seven hits. He struck out five and walked four. Matt Gatica picked up the save, pitching two innings of relief and giving
up no runs and no hits. He struck out two and walked one.
In the six-inning victory over Byron, Jordan Thayer stroked
three of Corunna's nine hits. The third baseman drove in a run. Centerfielder Brandon Eckerle banged a double and a triple
and also collected one RBI. Cameron had one hit and drove in a run and Nick Shipman had a hit and knocked in two runs.
Corunna
scored two runs in the first and added three more in the third, along with single runs in the fifth and sixth frames.
Taking
the loss for the Eagles was Mathias Miller, who worked the first 2 2-3 innings and gave up five runs and three hits. Miller
struck out two and walked two. Zack Richardson pitched the final 3 1-3 innings. He allowed six hits and two runs with two
strikeouts.
Byron (3-4) was topped offensively by Josh Fortress Corunna then faced Breckenridge in the title game.
The Huskies had defeated Mason, 4-1, earlier in the day to earn a berth into the championship round.
Patrick Bohac
stung three hits while Eckerle added two. Cameron and Travis Sain each had one hit and three RBIs. Corunna, which overcame
a 3-0 deficit after two innings tied the contest with three runs of its own in the third. the Cavaliers added four tallies
in the fourth and seven more in the fifth. Just for good measure the Cavs scored singled runs int he sith and seventh frames.
Ty
Kalat (1-0) was the winning hurler, working three innings of relief and giving up four hits and seven runs. Kalat struck out
two and walked four. Bohac pitched the first 1 1-3 innings and Shipman, earning the save, worked 2 2-3 innings. Shipman allowed
two hits and one run. He fanned one and walked two.
Youth Baseball Evaluations
Saturday, April 14th - the Corunna Baseball Program held the first ever player evaluations
on Saturday for the City Baseball and Softball programs. After getting off to a late start due to large numbers, things went
pretty well. All of the kids were active while running, fielding, hitting, and pitching to impress the Varsity players. Next
year, things will run a little different to ensure that our teacher to student ratio is a little lower and to make things
a little more personal for all involved. A job well done by Jordan Thayer and Brandon Eckerle to organize and execute
the day- Great Job. Thank you for your patience and we hope the summer program has a successful season.
Cavaliers
and Trojans Split...
Corunna-April
13th 2007
TC Central,
who is coming off of a great 2006 season, traveled to Corunna to play a doubleheader on Friday. After Corunna's grounds keeper
worked so hard to get the field ready the two teams battled in the game that never seemed like it was going to end. After
falling behind 3-0, the Cavaliers rallied to take a 6-3 lead that they eventually lost and then had to play catch up the rest
of the game. The Cavaliers out hit the Trojans but couldn't capitalize when need, eventually losing 18-14...yes that score
is correct.
Game two
turned out to be a pitching duel as only 6 hits were tallied between the two teams, fortunately for the Cavs they had 5 of
them. Brandon Eckerle threw 4 2/3 innings of no-hit baseball while striking out 11 and walking one. The eventual game-winning
hit came off the bat of Pat Bohac who singled in Jordan Thayer who led off the 3rd inning with a double to centerfield.
The Cavs added two more runs in the 4th to take a 3-0 lead that would hold up for the win.
The Cavaliers
return to action next week with two road games, Owosso on Tuesday and #6 ranked Fowlerville on Thursday, and the 2nd Annual
Corunna Wood Bat Tournament on Saturday. Stop by to enjoy the action and hopefully some great weather. GO CAVS!

Veterans Win 18 -12 in Inaugural Alumni Game
When the
inaugural Corunna Baseball Alumni Game was scheduled, the intent was for the game to be played outdoors…unfortunately
Mother Nature didn’t get the memo. With former Cavaliers in town ready to play; Coach Osborn and his current Cavaliers
decided to challenge the veterans to a game of Whiffle Ball.
When the
dust settled and the scores were totaled up, the veterans won 18 to 12. Still not sure if the veterans will be able to walk
in the coming days, they were inspired by the idea that with a win they would be able to eat first when the game was completed.
Many web
gems were witnessed but the two that stood out belonged to Kyle Clough – fielding a groundball to his glove side then
spinning and gunning out the runner at first – and Jordan Thayer – diving towards the line at third and showing
off his howitzer to first base to deny the veteran from getting on base.
On the mound
was former Cavalier Coach, Tony Bohac. Coach Bo’s stuff was amazing – Roger Clemens would have been impressed
by the 21 strikeouts. We won’t calculate his ERA as he pitched for both teams but his “gyro ball” did strikeout
a player (who we won’t mention) five times.
Offensive
standouts for the current Cavaliers were Lance Grabowski (HR), Curtis Hoskins (HR), Nate Cameron (HR) and Brandon Eckerle
(HR, Triple). Many other players contributed to the 12 runs by running hard and taking advantage of miscues by the veterans.
The Veterans
took complete advantage of the short porch in left by hitting 5 timely homeruns. Ashton Porter, Andy Robertson, Zach Marble,
Brandon Whitman and Luke Kurrle (inside the park – yes…inside the park) touched them all in the victory and Lance
LeCureux legged out a triple in the winning effort.
With the
Veterans coming out and playing, we hope that the Current Cavaliers realize how special this game is and take advantage of
the time they have left here at CHS. Special thanks go out to the parents for coordinating the food, Kyle Clough for arranging
the players, and obviously thanks to all the families for allowing this to take place on this holiday weekend! Check back
as the Cavaliers take on Haslett in the season opener this Wednesday
First
Team Practice
We had a great practice this morning and the weekend
couldn't come at a better time. After we did a lot of throwing, the guys could use a few days to recover and then come back
on Monday ready to resume our progress towards our goals. Check out the Varsity roster and thank you for supporting the Corunna Baseball Program.
Check the practice schedule for more information regarding times.
Day 4
Summary
This team could be special...the way that they rebounded
from last nights practice was crucial. Our senior leadership has been tremendous and the juniors have done a great job of
working like Cavaliers! Our squad was selected tonight and in the coming days we will post our official roster - check back
soon and be ready for an update regarding our Alumni Game.
Day
3 Summary
After two great days of practice there seemed to be
a letdown tonight…with our team selection occurring tomorrow there seemed to be a lack of focus. This game is already
difficult enough when you have total concentration, don’t make it harder by not focusing. Many of our hitters did show
progress tonight, and our bunting was slightly better – the coaches were very happy with that. Overall I think we earned
a B- on this practice if we were to grade it. Parents, be aware that our pictures are on the 21st of March and
we are having a Meet the Teams night on the 27th of March. Please check back tomorrow for another update.
Day 2 Summary
What a great spring day, we were able to take flyballs and ground
balls at the varsity field, everything was dry and we are even ready for rain by installing our new tarp on home plate. Every
player has been video taped and the coaching staff will analyze each swing on our computer software to ensure that every player
is working to his potential while in the cage. This group has set the tone that every team in the state would love to have
in terms of intensity and focus...now if we can maintain this we will be looking good. NO EXCUSES!
First Day summary -
After 2 practices and 4 hours of practice, day one is complete and the coaching
staff is very pleased with the work ethic and dedication of all the players. Many techniques were talked about, demonstrated
and executed by all and this was one of the most productive first days in the programs recent history. Check back for more
information and Go Cavs!

SPRING
BREAK PLANS...
As
well as practicing; Corunna Baseball is planning a trip to watch the MSU Spartans and the Lansing Lugnuts in an exhibition
game on April 3rd at 6:30 in the evening at Oldsmobile Park. The Lansing Lugnuts will challenge the Michigan State Spartans
before the Lugnuts open the 2007 campaign, their 12th in Lansing. Michigan
State plays many of their home games at Oldsmobile Park and the others at Kobs Field (on campus by Jenison Fieldhouse).
Other trips could include
games at Mott CC, Aquinas, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Grand Valley and Saginaw Valley. If you are interested, contact Coach Oz to reserve your spots. MORE INFORMATION WILL BE COMING SOON!
FROM
THE COACH:
February 10th, 2007
Dear
Parents and Players:
March 12th, the beginning of the 2007 Baseball season is quickly approaching and my question is what have
you done to prepare for the upcoming season? We have had many of our out-of-season athletes working out in the cages and they
are about to begin a throwing program to prepare their arms for the season ahead. Have
you picked up a bat, a ball, or even looked for your glove? If not, maybe it would be a great time to start thinking in this
direction as MLB pitchers and catchers are preparing to report to camp. ESPN, FOX, and all other media outlets will be covering
this and hopefully your competitive juices will begin to flow.
More importantly, what are your grades looking like? One of my goals for this team is to be an Academic All-State team
– it is possible if we apply ourselves in the classrooms as much as we do on the field. That is my challenge to you
the player! Parents, I would hope that you take this opportunity to monitor your son’s studies – make them accountable!
We all know that our minds will get us further in life than our bats.
On Tuesday, February 20th, we will have our Pre-Season parent meeting in
the HS Media Center. The start time will be 6:30 pm – this is the same night that our basketball team will be facing Williamston and the night before our Wrestlers
defend their regional championship. Please attend as I will be passing out material pertaining to our selection process, the season, and some of my expectations for our players. I feel that this is one reason we have been successful
in the past because everyone knows what is expected of them upfront! Please make every attempt to attend.
This family is getting stronger and that is the way it should be…now the next step is to show support to our
youth baseball program. Without them we are nothing – if you would like to coach, sponsor, or just plain donate some
time or money to help them let me know and I will make the necessary phone calls.
Enjoy the next few weeks; think warm weather, dry fields, strong arms and hot bats!
Respectfully,
Coach
OZ
Eckerle named Baseball All-State
Brandon Eckerle was recently named to the all-state second-team. This is the first all-state honor for
Brandon.
Eckerle was a junior Infielder/Pitcher for the Cavs and was named
to the Division 2 squad. Playing shortstop, Eckerle batted a team-high .511 with 47 hits. He had three triples, seven doubles
and a home run while finishing with a slugging percentage of .685, an on-base percentage of .567 and stole 20 bases on 23
attempts.
At shortstop, Eckerle had a fielding percentage of .908 with
30 put-outs, 29 assists and only six errors. Eckerle was instrumental in Corunna's 7-1 mark in the Mid-Michigan Conference,
good for a championship tie with Alma. It was the Cavaliers third consecutive
conference title under Coach Brian Osborn.
